Welcome Back

It has certainly been a lively and busy start to the year as we have been transitioning record numbers of learners back into the school as we finally resume normal practice after COVID-19. To see that we also have record attendance levels is amazing, as is seeing lots of new friendships being formed and great memories created.

We are excited to see what the rest of the Autumn term will bring for the Orchard family, but we are certainly looking forward to holding our first face to face Parents’ Day since the pandemic hit.

Football Tournament

This term saw our first ever interschool football match against Demeter House School.  This was an excellent experience for all involved and is a building block towards Orchard entering the SEN Engage Championships.  Although the game didn’t end favourably for us all of the boys were winners in our eyes and were a credit to the school, themselves and everyone who works with them. They worked hard for each other, supported and encouraged each other when things didn’t go right and behaved impeccably both on the pitch and while waiting their turn to play.  They never dropped their heads and made the event a proud moment for all with the boys looking forward to the next game.  Watch this space for more!

Lincoln Castle

We have been so happy this term to see the return of our educational visits. These have been a huge hit with learners and staff too with everyone enjoying our recent visit to Lincoln Castle. We always aspire to bring our unique curriculum to life as we believe we learn best by doing and truly experiencing the culture and content of our special curriculum.

World Mental Health Day

For the second year running we have participated in the

Hello Yellow event which helps raise vital funds, awareness and support to show young people that they are not alone with their mental health.  It was a great day and lots of fun was had by all who participated.  Thanks as always to the parents and carers who help us in supporting these events.

A message from the Principal

A warm hello to all parents and carers – I have been lucky enough to be successful as the next Principal of Orchard school, working closely with Mike as he progresses to Executive Principal to make sure that the school continues to support every learner to thrive and flourish in education.  I’ve been with Orchard since the start in my previous role as Assistant Principal so I’m pretty much part of the furniture and I promise to ensure that the high standards that you expect from Orchard are upheld in all areas.

In September we welcomed back our learners and staff for another exciting year, including our year seven cohorts who have settled in positively.  We have lots of interesting topics and activities planned for the next half term including a wide focus on environmental issues across both key stages, our key stage 4 learners will be completing their first accredited NCFE qualification units, and as you would expect a good dollop of festive cheer will see us through to the Christmas holidays.

I look forward to seeing you all in the near future.

Best wishes, Becky
