Welcome to our Spring 1 newsletter, we cannot believe that we are already halfway through the 2021-22 academic year.
Welcome to our Spring 1 newsletter, we cannot believe that we are already halfway through the 2021-22 academic year. It has been a difficult term and we have had to respond to the challenges thrown at us by COVID once again by making adjustments to our timetables. We would like to thank you for your support during this time as the children have responded brilliantly to the changes that we have implemented. This has been further reflected in the brilliant attendance levels that we have had this year and the fabulous engagement in remote learning for those who have had to work at home.
GCSE take 2!
This summer will see only our second group of learners take their GCSE examinations with the Orchard school. All of the preparations are well under way, and we look forward to the summer where we will be keeping everything crossed that there will be no interruptions to the exam timetable. We will be sending out lots of information over the coming weeks to parents of those on the GCSE pathway so would appreciate your support in reading and returning the important documentation.
Whilst the restrictions are now beginning to lift we would like to remind you that face coverings are still mandatory in Orchard transport. However, when in and around school they are entirely up to the discretion of staff and students. For the foreseeable future we will be carrying on with twice weekly testing of students but will continue to take guidance from the DfE and Public Health England.

NELC SEND Awards
These awards were created to celebrate the achievements of local children with Special, Educational Needs and Disabilities. We are immensely proud to say that three of our learners have been nominated for and won an award! Unfortunately, the award ceremony has been postponed but we look forward to being able to properly celebrate this achievement soon.
As the weather changes, the nights get lighter and the covid restrictions lift this is enabling us to offer all our learners the opportunities to gain new experiences, make memories and have fun whilst at school. I hope you can all join me in smiling happily whilst looking at some of the amazing photos we have included in our newsletter, these are just a small example of the amazing things our children get to experience. Have a fantastic half term.
