In early May, learners at The Orchard Special Educational Needs School in Grimsby took part in a series of exam stress workshops delivered by Compass GO, a local mental health support service. Aimed at supporting GCSE learners, the sessions focused not only on the importance of revision but also on strategies to protect and prioritise mental well-being during the busy exam season.
The interactive workshops explored practical techniques for managing anxiety, building confidence, and staying balanced through periods of high pressure. Learners left with a toolkit of strategies to help them thrive—not just academically, but emotionally as well.
Tristan, Assistant Principal (Education), said:
“At Orchard we are incredibly proud of all our learners’ achievements. Academic progress is just one part of their journey. We wish all our learners the very best of luck as they take their next steps—whether that’s college, an apprenticeship, or employment—and want them to know our support doesn’t end at the school gates.”
The Orchard has worked closely with Compass GO for the past three years. The partnership has supported both learners and staff in better understanding mental health and in developing strategies that promote a healthier, more supportive learning environment.
As exam season continues, The Orchard remains committed to ensuring learners are equipped not only with the knowledge to succeed, but also with the emotional resilience to thrive beyond the classroom.
