The Orchard School Launches Duke of Edinburgh’s Award Programme for the First Time

The Orchard School, a specialist SEN school in Grimsby, is proud to announce that it will be participating in the prestigious Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) scheme for the very first time.

Open to young people aged 14–24, the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award is an internationally recognised programme that encourages personal development through volunteering, physical activity, skills development and expeditions. Each learner builds their own bespoke DofE journey, choosing activities and causes that reflect their interests and strengths as they work towards Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards.

The programme closely aligns with The Orchard School’s ethos and values, echoing the words of the scheme’s founder, HRH Prince Philip, who once said: “There is more in you than you might think.” This belief sits at the heart of The Orchard’s commitment to empowering learners, building confidence and supporting independence.

Steven Broderick, Principal of The Orchard School, said:

“We are incredibly proud to be introducing the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award to The Orchard for the first time. This programme gives our learners the opportunity to challenge themselves, discover new strengths and gain skills that will support them well beyond their time at school. It truly reflects our belief in every young person’s potential.”

The school is looking forward to beginning its DofE journey and supporting learners as they take part in this globally respected programme, gaining both personal achievement and wider recognition for their efforts.
