December at the Orchard was all about Christmas and celebrating the years’ successes for learners. Staff and learners at the school took part in a number of celebrations, parties and fundraising events which support their local community, to end the year on a high.
Despite the fun, the focus remained on learning, and the school were proud to see their first group of KS4 learners complete their BTEC Level 1 in Home Cooking. As well as practical cooking experiences, learners also prepared menus, designed invitations and set the dining room to welcome some very special guests into school. The culmination of their hard work was their family members and staff sampling their delicious homemade dishes at a special event. School Principal, Steven Broderick, said, “It’s important to us to celebrate our learners’ successes in meaningful ways. We are so proud of our learners for completing their qualification, but we know that being able to share that success and what they have learned with their families has a big impact on their self-confidence, which is why we arranged this event. We hope everyone who attended enjoyed the food as much as we did!”
