As part of their wide-reaching Careers and Work Experience programme, learners at The Orchard school met with firefighters at their local fire station this week. Learners had the opportunity to talk with the firefighters to gain an insight into their job and the equipment they use to tackle fires.
The school places a huge emphasis on their Careers and Work Experience programme which aims to give learners insight into a wide range of career paths. As part of this programme, learners are able to talk to staff from different industries about their roles, and learn what skills and qualifications are necessary to work in that specific sector. School Principal, Steven Broderick, said, “These types of experiences are invaluable in helping our learners prepare for work, and are central to our school vision of ensuring every learner becomes the best version of themselves and that they make the next steps in their lives with the confidence, skills, resilience, and aspirations to achieve lifelong success. All of our year 11 learners will also be given the opportunity to participate in work experience where they will interview for and attend a placement with an external organisation. We know that this real-life experience is the best way to set our learners up for their next steps in the world.”
